Distilled water has NO CONDUCTIVITY as is does not have the minerals found in normal tap water. Therefore the change in the water that you see at the end of 40 minutes with no feet is due to rod deterioration which occurs over time which is why the rods need to be replaced after 80-160 sessions depending on the model you have purchased. If you choose to use distilled water, you will need to double the amount of sea salt recommended for your model rather then the 1 teaspoon (scoop) recommenced in our online manual or the manual you received with your product.
NOTE* Operating the foot bath without feet in the water, will turn the water different colors; yellow to orange to brown because the minerals and other impurities in the tap water as well as rod usage will precipitate out. However; you can see the difference between this and a footbath session. Please note that if the tap water is particularly impure, the difference in water color between feet and no feet will be less noticeable, just like adding a handful of dirt to already dirty water. The fact that the water changes color is evidence that the array is working properly.
